For over 25 years Elizabeth Esris explored literature and writing with English classes in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She urged students to write, revise, and value their voices. She also sponsored poetry readings and an award winning literary magazine, Opus, at her school. Concurrently, she wrote and published both poetry and prose. Her experience as a new teacher was included in the book, My First Year as a Teacher. She is a fellow of The Pennsylvania Writing Project.
Her poetry has appeared in Passager, Schuylkill Valley Journal, River Heron Review, Wild River Review and other journals. France Revisited (francerevisited.com) published eight of her articles. A memoir, “My Last Christmas” appeared in the 2026 edition of Smoky Blue Literary and Arts Magazine. Her editorial writing frequently appears in The Bucks County Herald newspaper.
Esris wrote the libretto for Elegy for a Prince in collaboration with composer Sergio Cervetti. It was a finalist in The VOX Opera Competition sponsored by New York City Opera in 2007 and was performed in excerpts at New York’s Skirball Center. In February 2019, a month before the pandemic closed the world, the second act was performed in concert at Carnegie Hall. Elizabeth is a member of The Arts and Cultural Council of Bucks County, Pennsylvania and has been invited to read a number of times at their monthly salon. She is a proud board member of Volta Writing Center which is based at Bucks County Community College and supports the written and spoken word in the surrounding community.
She lives in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with her husband, Mike. Whenever possible, they welcome home their two children who live in other states.
